Brazil's CPqD to expand Espirito Santo public service grid
Brazilian R&D institute CPqD has won a contract from the Institute of Information Technology and Communication of Espirito Santo (Prodest) to provide consultancy services and engineering to expand the Metro-Gvix optical fibre network, linking state and local government agencies in five areas of the city of Vitoria. Work on the project has already started and the value of the contract is BRL 960,000. This network should be fully operational, with about 492 access points, by the end of 2013. Among the services to be provided to the population are telemedicine, video surveillance, weather monitoring for disaster prevention, integrated traffic control and long-distance education in real time. The idea is that the Metro-Gvix network will be integrated into the infrastructure of Telebras and be part of the National Broadband Plan (PNBL).
