CPqD R&D and Inovation Photonic components and sub-systems: a portfolio to meet increasing global market demands

:: Photonic components and sub-systems: a portfolio to meet increasing global market demands

A+ A-

The number of internet users should hit the 3 billion mark in 2015. With ever more sophisticated applications at their fingertips, these users are creating an increasing demand for bandwidth, which optical networks and communication systems will find a way to supply. To do this, they will need to step-up their use of photonic components and sub-systems.

To meet this pressing market need, CPqD is broadening its portfolio of essential photonic components and sub-systems for the industry. Developed with CPqD technology and know-how, this portfolio will certainly contribute to boost the industry of photonic equipment, components and systems not only in Brazil, but in the global market as well.

The initial portfolio of CPqD photonic products includes key-technologies to meet the needs of telecommunication industries and of other industries too:

-  Laser pumping, used to manufacture WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) optical amplifiers, as well as fiber lasers. This is a high-capacity optical device, destined for optical equipment manufacturers who need high-quality, reliable components.

-  Fiber Laser, for market sectors such as raw-material processing, medical, and the military.

New products are planned to be included in the photonic components and sub-systems portfolios within the next two years:

-  Tunable Transmitters and Optical Sub-Assembly Receivers (TOSA/ROSA), for high-speed data transmission applications.

-  Passive optical devices for WDM systems.

Through CPqD's ecosystem of companies, Brazilian optical and photonic communication technology will be present in solutions commercialized worldwide. This will help Brazil and other countries who are investing in optical networks to meet the ever-growing demand for high-capacity, broadband access.
