CPqD presents the WiMAX Network solution at Futurecom
Promoting digital inclusion for health and education staff in one of the most remote regions in Brazil is the main benefit arising from installing the first WiMAX network in the country for the use of Internet in the city of Parintins, in the Amazon. CPqD Research and Development Center in Telecommunications, and Intel in partnership with Embratel, Proxim, and Cisco installed an powerful WiMAX network in the city?s health center, in two schools, and in a community center, with the objective of providing Internet access to students, teachers, doctors and social workers, overcoming all geographic barriers that prevent the island on the Amazon River from having access to the digital world.
The technology used in this project with the technical support from CPqD?s WiMAX Network department will be presented at Futurecom, which will be held on October 2 - 5, in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. On the occasion, Hélio Graciosa, CEO of CPqD, will explain, to the audience the organization?s involvement in the project, the innovations that allowed it to concretize, and he will also comment on the aspects of extending this initiative to other regions of the country.
?This technology was specially designed to be the most efficient and cheapest way to build wireless networks for broadband Internet access in rural and metropolitan areas?, says Graciosa. ?Therefore, we are certain that projects with the same importance can be concretized in other parts of Brazil, with the same efficiency and social return, where there is the need for digital inclusion, and scientific and educational evolution? emphasizes Graciosa. To intensify the involvement in the development of innovative solutions based on WiMAX technology, on Tuesday, September 03, at six o?clock, CPqD is offering a cocktail for researchers and business people in the areas of telecom and technology, to celebrate the partnership agreement established with Proxim and Parks, companies that develop WiMAX equipment, which will be involved in future project.
?Through the partnership with Proxim, CPqD will aid the industry in adopting this new technology through developments suitable to requirements of its customers in Brazil? states the CEO of CPqD.
