Management of new networks telecomunications is the focus of a project developed by CPQD 

The increasing complexity of new networks of telecomUnifications – optical and 5G, for example – have been demanding the use of innovative resources and solutions to meet the different processes related to the operation, maintenance, planning and auditing of these networks. Giving intelligent and more efficient support to these processes is the main objective of the Management 4.0 of Networks project. Telecom, which CPQD began to develop with the support of resources from the Fund for the Technological Development of Telecomunications (FUNTTEL), from the Ministry of Communications, managed by Finep.

Lasting 40 months, the new project tem focus on the development of a technical support platform for the office and field teams of the telecom – carriers and internet service providers (ISPs). “The intention is to make these companies' networks more resilient, through the adoption of new technologies that allow optimizing and adding more intelligence to their management processes”, explains Andréa de Campos Oliveira, project manager at CPQD.

Among the technologies that should be applied to help the work of the teams (office and field) of the telecom, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning resources stand out, Internet das Coisas (IoT), image processing and augmented reality. With the distribution of IoT sensors and actuators over the network, for example, the idea is to automate various team actions and also provide data for the creation of a knowledge base that should support analysis and decision-making.

The use of machine learning, on the other hand, will provide the office staff with subsidies for defining preventive – and proactive – actions related to the operation and maintenance of the network. And the application of immersive techniques, such as augmented reality, will facilitate the visualization of field information by the specialists responsible for providing remote support to the networks. “All of this should bring improvements to the services provided to users, with a reduction in errors, an increase in productivity and, even, a reduction in operating costs”, concludes Andréa.
