CPQD had an active participation in two important events in the area of photonics held at the beginning of March, on the campus of the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES), in Vitória: a Free Conference of the 5th National Conference of Science, Technology and Innovation ( CT&I) with a focus on Photonics and the 6th Sis Webinartemthe National Photonics Laboratories – Sisfóton. Promoted by UFES in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), the events had the support of CPQD – as the Sisfóton Integrating Laboratory – both in their organization and in the scheduled activities.

The Free Photonics Conference of the 5th National CT&I Conference, held on the 7th, aimed to generate subsidies in this area for discussion at the national conference, which is scheduled for June, in Brasília. O temthat of the conference was Integrative Projects in Photonics: Reducing vulnerabilities in strategic production chains.

João Rosolem, coordinator of the Sisfóton project at CPQD, participated as a debater on the panel Reducing vulnerabilities via Cooperation Networks. “Holding this Free Conference was of great importance, as it puts photonics on the map of the 5th National Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation, an event that will define the country’s strategy in this area and guarantee resources for the next ten years”, says Rosolem.

On the 8th, the 6th Sisfóton Webinar was tema Integrative Projects and Photonics: Directions. Rafael Figueiredo, also from Laboratório Integrador Sisfóton/CPQD, participated in one of the panels at the event, which addressed Project Financing Opportunities: Partnerships inside and outside the Sisfóton Network.

“This webinar provided another step forward in the effort to integrate Sisfóton Laboratories, by discussing the possibility of joint projects taking advantage of the notices from Nova Indústria Brasil, which tem photonics as one of the enabling technologies”, highlights Rosolem. “In addition, this is also one of the areas of activity of the CPQD Integrator Laboratory, which develops technologies in sensing, optical communications and integrated photonics”, adds Rafael Figueiredo.

In the same week as these events, CPQD employees participated in the Integrated Photonics Summer School, also held on the UFES campus. Aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students and professionals in the field of photonics, the meeting was supported by the Brazilian Societies of Microwaves and Optoelectronics (SBMO), Photonics (SBFóton) and Microelectronics (SBMicro).
