In a new phase, the Sisfóton Integrator Laboratory project wants to strengthen the ecosystemtemphotonics in Brazil

Network of photonics laboratories – of which CPQD is the Integrating Laboratory – is open to new actors interested in developing solutions to market challenges

The Sis Integration Laboratory projecttemthe National Photonics Laboratories (Sisfóton), started in July 2021 at the initiative of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovations (MCTI), is entering a new phase. The objective is to strengthen the integration of the laboratories that are part of this network with the market - which includes industries, startups and companies that use this technology -, creating an ecosystem in the countrytemthat of innovation in photonics, Ecossistemto Sisyphoton.

“Photonics is a strategic technology for several economic sectors; a field of science that is increasingly relevant to society”, emphasizes João Batista Rosolem, coordinator of the Sisfóton project at CPQD – which acts as an Integrating Laboratory for the network formed by 11 national laboratories. “To strengthen the national photonics value chain, it is essential to engage new actors in this project, in a unique and open environment of innovation aimed at developing technologies and solutions for real market challenges”, he explains.

As Sisfóton-MCTI Integrator Laboratory, CPQD already tem conducted several actions aimed at promoting interaction between the laboratories of the network: EMBRAPA – São Carlos, CNEN – National Nuclear Energy Commission, SENAI – Joinville, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, Federal University of Pernambuco, Federal University of Goiás, University Federal do Espírito Santo, Unicamp, UNESP – Araraquara and USP – São Carlos. In the new phase, the intention is to bring to the initiative companies and institutions that work in the field of photonics, in different segments, that are interested in sharing knowledge, experiences and challenges and, eventually, in signing technological cooperation agreements or promoting entrepreneurship initiatives. together with Ecossis partnerstemto Sisyphoton.

“One of the ideas is to create workshops for different sectors, such as agribusiness, health, telecomunications, energy, industry, manufacturing, defense and security, among others”, reveals Rosolem. It is also planned to create technological showcases showing applications of photonics in various segments, as well as holding workshops and other events.

Rosolem clarifies that any interested company or institution can take part in the initiative – free of charge – and be recognized as an Ecossis partnertemto Sisyphoton. It is enough to share the same vision and purpose of the movement, expressed in the Declaration of Common Objectives for Innovation and Strengthening of the Photonics Industry in Brazil.
